A Refuge for Nature
Nature Refuge Landholders' Association Queensland - Inc. (NaRLA)
A very large proportion of land in Australia is under private ownership or management. Most threatened and endangered ecosystems are located on private lands. The States simply cannot secure all the important habitats, so encouraging this sector of the community to conserve nature on private land is the way of the future.
NaRLA is the first independent organisation in Australia formed by landholders themselves. Our specific purpose is to empower our members and others who own or control land, to manage their land to achieve a Refuge for Nature in conjunction with other uses of their land.
NaRLA's members are private landholders, leaseholders and other professionals in the conservation field, who recognise the vital role that private landholders have to play in the conservation of native flora and fauna, and who are committed to promoting and playing an active part in that role.
Through NaRLA, landholders, including farmers and graziers are working with government agencies, scientists, and corporate, private, and community organisations to develop and implement practical and effective ways of protecting Australia's unique natural heritage while still protecting their livelihoods.
NaRLA is incorporated as a not-for-profit Association, and endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office as a charitable institution.
Our Mission
NaRLA is dedicated to the establishment and management of a network of nature refuges for the benefit of the land, wildlife and the human community.
Ultimately, the long-term success of nature conservation world-wide is going to depend upon the dedication of those who own or control private lands to the management of those lands in ways that will not only meet their personal needs, but also ensure effective nature conservation and maintenance of natural biodiversity.
